Photo Book Review

Home & Other Stories: Photographs by Catherine Wagner

The series of photographs presented in the photo-book "Home & Other Stories: Photographs by Catherine Wagner" are a documentary set of images which feature home interiors as their subject. Each photograph features a domestic room or several items within the room. Although the spaces are without a human form they have a feel of inhabitance due to the personal items present. While some images are presented individually, others are placed alongside one another, which creates a dialogue between the two images. She also chose to present some images as a triptych which creates a narrative amongst the images. Each room, or object gives a sense of the person who we as a viewer would imagine lives (or lived) in the room.

Photography Book Proposal

For my final project/photography book I would like to photograph playgrounds. I was inspired by a fellow classmate, Rachel Scherer's playground pictures for her "Sense of Place" assignment. I liked the playground as a subject. I also like how some of the objects become portrait-like. The linear elements and symmetry also captured me. I am also attracted to the sense of emptiness, which is something I frequently like to incorporate in my own work.
